My name is Cyndi Jordan. I am a woman
who loves the Lord and desires with all of my heart to be faithful and
representative of Him as I struggle with daily Migraines and chronic pain.
I have found that the journey of
chronic pain involves not just the physical but also the emotional, the
financial, the social, and the spiritual aspects of my life. I am thankful to
be blessed with a wonderful support network, including my family, my friends,
the Migraine community, and my fur babies - Marlie and Milo.
I experience daily chronic Migraines,
Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, arthritis, spinal radiculopathy,
hypothyroidism, and a platelet coagulation disorder. My belief is that I can
make a choice about how I view the impact of these on my life. I can look at it
with loathing and despair or can look at it is an opportunity for growth. I
cling to the words in Jeremiah 29:11 (even though it is often difficult) which
say "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for good
and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
It is my intent to live purposefully
and mindfully - choosing to always look for hope, joy, grace and personal
growth. I cannot do this alone and rely upon my support network and the help of
my Heavenly Father to do this.
My desire for this blog is that I can
share with you as a part of your support network. I hope that by sharing
my experiences and the strategies I have learned and employed that I may, in
some small way, help your life with chronic pain to be even a little bit
better.
I have much to celebrate - my family,
my friends, my puppies, my relationship with the Lord, books, laughter, music,
and a warm and safe home. It is upon these things that I long to and choose to
focus.
Prior to going on disability
full-time, I had a private practice in counseling where I worked with children,
women and families. My passion and area of expertise is play therapy. Marlie,
one of my fur babies, went to work with me every day and often was the
"featured" therapist. Additionally, I am an associate professor and
consultant to Student Academic Support Services at the University of Tennessee
Center for Health Sciences.
I have a doctorate in education with
a collateral in school psychology. My masters degree is in counseling. I also
have a bachelors degree from Baylor University in psychology and religion. I am
a licensed professional counselor, a licensed senior psychological examiner, a
registered play therapist - supervisor, and a board certified Christian
counselor. These do not define me. Ultimately and most importantly, I am a
ordinary person, a ragamuffin, desperately in need of the love and grace of
Christ.
My passions in life are children,
play, laughter, my job, learning, friends, family, and trying to help even one
person's life be a little bit better because they have known me.
One of my favorite quotes is by
Emerson - "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent
people and the affection of children; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in
others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden
patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier
because you have lived; that is to have succeeded."
In addition to Jeremiah 29:11, one of
my favorite passages of Scripture is Philippians 4:8: "Finally, brothers,
whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or
praiseworthy - think about such things."
